8 Must-Have Golf Accessories

Must Have Golf Accessories

You don’t need every single accessory or the latest gadget to play golf, but there are certain must-have golf accessories that will improve your experience and enjoyment. Although what’s considered a “must-have” can vary from person to person, Glovelast has compiled the top eight golf accessories as a handy checklist.

Find out which must-have golf accessories made our list to see if you’re missing anything.

Accessories Every Golfer Should Have

According to the National Golf Foundation, 34.2 million Americans ages six and up played golf in 2019. With the growing golf industry, it can be easy to get carried away when shopping for gear. Here are eight must-have golf accessories that should be on your equipment list to help you from going overboard.

1. Golf Clubs

An obvious, but important, must-have golf accessory is a good set of golf clubs. What’s less known is how many golf clubs you’re allowed to bring. According to the United States Golf Association (USGA), a golfer “is limited to no more than 14 clubs” to carry in their bag.

If you’re unsure which clubs to carry, Golfweek.com says that the standard 12 clubs in many golf bags are three woods (driver, 3-wood, and 5-wood), eight irons, (3-9 iron and pitching wedge), and a putter.

2. Stand Bag

Organize your golf clubs in a stand bag with retractable legs for convenience and various pockets to give you easy access to your stuff. Stand bags range in price but they’re typically lightweight and durable.

3. Golf Balls and Tees

Like golf clubs, you need golf balls and tees to play the game. However, there isn’t a rule to how many you can carry so that’s up to you, but most professionals carry about nine golf balls in their bag per round.

4. Golf Shoes

You don’t have to wear golf shoes instead of your regular athletic sneakers but they do help with balance when you’re walking on grass and sand. Golf shoes also have better traction than sneakers which can boost the distance and consistency of your swing.

5. Golf Glove

Wearing a golf glove not only protects your hand when swinging, but it also provides comfort which can enhance performance. Look for a golf glove made with quality material and construction for a flexible, long-lasting fit.

6. Glove Shaper

Glovelast’s glove shaper is great for preserving the shape of your glove and helping it dry faster. It works by slipping the glove onto the shaper after use. The shaper replicates the contour of a human hand and the raised rib design fills out the glove to promote drying. (Learn more about the benefits of a glove shaper for golfers in our blog post.)

7. Sun Protection

The sun's UV rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m so it’s important to protect your skin and eyes with appropriate sun protection like sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) clothing.

8. Golf Towel

Clubs get dirty which is why having a microfiber golf towel in your bag is useful for wiping away dirt and grass. Better yet if it comes with a carabiner clip so you don’t have to dig around in your golf bag.

Quality Over Quantity

Investing in fewer quality golf accessories that you will actually use is better than buying a lot of stuff that’ll never see the light of day. Also, having a lot of accessories means more things to carry around, keep track, and replace when they wear out or break. Make it easier on yourself by selecting golf accessories that are truly worth it to you.
